BIOFLEX® Laser Therapy: Cold Laser Therapy for Pain

If you’ve been exploring laser therapy for pain relief, you may have heard the terms “Class III” and “Class IV” laser therapy. We recently shared more about the Class IV laser we offer at True Spine Chiropractic, the Aspen Ascent Laser Series. In this blog post, we’ll provide a deeper look at the other effective laser system we treat patients with, the BIOFLEX® MultiPort System, which is a Class III laser.

What is BIOFLEX®?

BIOFLEX® is a clinically proven form of low-level laser therapy (LLLT), also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) or cold laser therapy. This non-invasive treatment uses red and near-infrared light to gently stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.

It’s called “cold” laser therapy because the light intensity is low enough that it doesn’t heat or damage body tissues. Instead, it penetrates the skin and reaches deeper areas of injury or inflammation, where it enhances cellular activity, supports tissue regeneration, and releases nitric oxide to boost blood flow. Rather than just masking the pain, laser therapy addresses the root of the condition.

Because BIOFLEX® emits lower levels of energy, we can provide a longer treatment duration to optimize healing and anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, the MultiPort System can operate up to four treatment arrays or laser probes simultaneously, which means we can treat multiple regions of the body simultaneously.

Benefits of Low-Level Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is becoming an increasingly popular option for pain management and recovery. It’s gentle, non-invasive, and drug-free, and it stimulates cellular activity that helps activate the body’s natural pain relief and healing mechanisms. The therapy works by promoting the growth and repair of injured muscles, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and joints. Numerous clinical studies show that it can help reduce pain and inflammation, improve circulation, and support tissue repair and regeneration, making it beneficial for both acute injuries and chronic conditions.

What to Expect During Treatment

Patients may feel a gentle warming of the skin during the treatment. Many patients feel an immediate reduction in pain, especially with acute injuries, along with decreased swelling, improved mobility and muscle relaxation. A small percentage of patients may experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours as the body adjusts to the healing process.

Treatment time: Sessions can last 15-60 minutes depending on the number of areas treated.

Number of sessions:

  • Acute conditions: 5–6 treatments

  • Chronic conditions: 6–12 treatments, with follow-ups as needed

Long Term Benefits

Over the following weeks to months, most patients experience significant improvement in symptoms and overall healing, including sustained pain reduction, tissue repair and regeneration, improved joint and muscle function, and long lasting inflammation control.
